The Darkness Comes

Yesterday I woke up feeling completely blessed. Blessed that I am alive, blessed that I am healthy, blessed that I am living history in the making! That blessed feeling stays with me but I regret that not all of my fellow Americans feel as blessed.

I came to work yesterday morning tired but glad to be that tired, because I stayed up all night watching "The Greatest Election of All Time". And at about midnight, I heard one of the most powerful speeches come from the mouth of a Black man that is to be our 44Th President! It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. Watching barriers being broken, watching history being made, and watching the country rejoice the dawn of a new era!

A era where a Black man is holding the most powerful position in America. An era where Americans of all ethnic backgrounds can come together and live peacefully and happily. An era where we as a Nation can say, "YES WE CAN" and actually do it! But like a picnic you plan at the beginning of the week, you can't predict the weather!

But not everyone felt the same as I did. They had a certain slump in their back, a thorn in their side, a limp in their walk. They obviously were not pleased with the outcome of the election. To my surprise one person decided that they were going to verbalize their frustrations. This person blurts out, "I was disgusted with the election last night!". "Whoa", I thought to myself, "did this person really just say that?" Then they proceed, "I told *** turn off the TV I just can watch this any more it's making me sick!"

Now what possessed this person to believe that anyone in the office was going to agree with them was beyond me. I wanted to scream out, "ARE YOU CRAZY?" But I didn't! I didn't even acknowledge the comment, as well as many of my other colleagues. But that stuck with me all day. I have a lot that I wanted to say to this person, but since I don't really have the time I need right now I am going to come back tonight and let you know exactly what I should have said!

In the meantime, I still feel blessed!

In regards to the ignorant woman at your work, maybe she is scared. People fear what they do not know. Unfortunately our society has become too used to something that should of been different a long time ago. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. She will learn the ways of the world! In the meantime, just keep feeling blessed! Cause you are. Cause your my sister. :) LOL

You are too cute! But your thoughts are true...I think she is afraid. Afraid that her whole way of thinking is being challenged and that life as she knows it is going to change. Because in her life there is no person that can run the world the way she sees fit other than the person she voted for, regardless of how the past has shown us that isn't always true...look at the Bush administration, and we asked for that twice?

That's exactly what it is. According to her the world is doomed. According to me, there is always a positive way to look at things and that's what I'm doing. :)
